Our class story will be The Bog Baby
The Bog Baby is a magical story by Jeanne Willis and Gwen Millward
When two small sisters go fishing to the magic pond, they find something much better than a frog or a newt. They find a bog baby. Small and blue with wings like a dragon, the girls decide to make him their secret. I won't tell if you won't.
But the bog baby is a wild thing, and when he becomes poorly, the girls decide they must tell their mum. And she tells them the greatest lesson: if you really love something, you have to let it go.
We are looking forward to reading our new story and learning the WAGOLL for a story. We will spend time thinking about quality vocabulary choices and how we can magpie these to use in our own work. We will be looking at changing the characters and setting and we will then be writing our own stories. We will be continuing to focus on using capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. We will also be thinking about adding in addition details using adjectives and a range of conjunctions.
A big focus this half term will be on handwriting and ensuring that we use cursive, neat handwriting.
Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar
Another focus will be spelling, punctuation and grammar where we will be looking at different word types, identifying them within sentences and understanding how to use different punctuation.
Spellings will be set weekly and will be tested on Friday when new spellings will also be sent home. Please make sure you are learning these at home and applying them when writing.
Don't forget to have a look at www.spellingshed.com for weekly spelling games!
