Spring 2

In year 1 this half term, we will be focussing on the book 'Paper Planes' by Jim Helmore.

We will be learning an oral story and then using this to create our own friendship story. Children will have to innovate various parts of the story using their own ideas. We will be exploring different types of transport for children to use in their own stories.

After writing our friendship stories, children will begin to learn a new oral story to support them in writing their own recount message. They will be pretending to be a character from the story writing to a friend about something that has happened. Children will begin to learn about writing different types of sentences - statements and questions.

There will be a real focus on writing sentences with capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. 

It is important that children now begin to apply their handwriting knowledge into all writing activities.
