Literacy in the Spring Term
Can you believe we are already a term in! Your children have already come so far and are making great progress toward becoming independent writers. Last term your child learned to write their name independently and used their phonics skills to write CVC words.
Our stories this term are 'Whatever Next' 'How to Catch a Star' 'The Naught Bus' and 'The Train Ride'
We will be reading these texts across our lessons making predictions about what we think will happen, exploring the vocabulary used, retrieving clues from the text to answer comprehension questions, and sequencing the stories.
In addition to that we will be using these texts as a writing stimulus, writing lists so we know what we need to take for our trip to Mars. Writing recounts of what the naught bus gets up to in our classroom.
This term we are entering Phase 3 phonics and your child is learning new diagraphs and trigraphs (this is where two and three letters make one sound such as 'ch' in chip and 'igh' in night).
Support me at home as I grow on this learning journey by:
Supporting my reading at home at least 4x a week and signing my reading diary.
Help me practice the phonics sounds in my learning journey each week.
Support me to read and write words containing my new phonics sounds.
Help me think of my own sentences and stories to write and support me in using capital letters, finger spaces and punctuation as I learn.
