Maths
Within the Early Years Foundation Stage, the children explore two areas of mathematics:
Number
and
Space, Shape and Measure
Early Learning Goal
Number
By the end of the year the children to count reliably from one to 20, place numbers in order and say which number is one more or one less than a given number. Using quantities and objects, they add and subtract two single-digit numbers and count on or back to find the answer. They solve problems including doubling, halving and sharing.
Shape, Space and Measure
Children use everyday language to talk about size, weight, capacity, position, distance, time and money to compare quantities and objects to solve problems. They recognise, create and describe patterns. They explore characteristics of everyday objects and shapes using mathematical language to describe them.
Spring Term
This term, we are focusing on one more and one less than a number to 10, and playing with numbers, using addition and subtraction to practically solve problems.
How you can support you child's learning at home
Look for numbers on doors on your walk to school.
Count the snack money to give to the teacher.
Make a tower out of lego and count the blocks. Can they add some more or take some away.
Can they find different shapes inside or outside the house e.g. a plate, the window or the door. Can they count the sides and corners?
Here are some song to sing at home to practice your counting and shapes!
If you're feeling full of beans and want to exercise and count, this is a great one!

CHALLENGES!
Order or sequence the numbers, explore both options. Play to 5, 10 or 20!
an you pop the balloons in order to 20?
What's the highest number you can get to?
