EYFS

The Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum is used in Nursery and Reception. The EYFS Framework explains how and what your child will be learning to support their healthy development.

Your child will be learning skills, acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through 7 areas of learning:

PRIME AREAS

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED)
  • Communication and Language (CL)
  • Physical Development (PD)

SPECIFIC AREAS

  • Literacy (L)
  • Mathematics (M)
  • Understanding the World (UW)
  • Expressive Arts and Design (EAD)

These 7 areas are used to plan your child's learning and activities. The professionals teaching and supporting your child will make sure that these activities are suited to your child's unique needs. The curriculum is designed to be flexible and all learning is play based.

Children in the EYFS learn by playing and exploring, being active and through creative and critical thinking which takes place both indoors and outside.

Assessment

Your child will be observed by all members of the EYFS team in both Nursery and Reception. Some of these observations will be recorded in writing or as a photograph and these are collated to create an overall view of your child's edicational development within the phase. You will recieve photographs and updates on your child's learning through the use of Dojo.

We use an online learning journey called 'Showbie' to complement what we share with you at home for use in school to track development. Pictures and observations of each child are uploaded to a safe and secure website which is password protected. We are happy to share these with you during parents evenings.

We use all of this observation information to inform our planning to ensure that all children make progress and that their individual needs are met.
