Literacy in the Summer Term

Literacy and Topic

Why do Tigers Have Stripes?

This term we will be working hard to really show off our wonderful phonics knowledge in our writing.

Our writing will be based on a variety of books linked to the theme 'Animals Around the World'.

We will explore a variety of books; some familiar, and some new to the children, to compare life in different parts of the world and learn some interesting facts about some famous landmarks.

We will become authors ourselves while we use our own ideas to innovate some familiar stories. We can't wait to see the wonderful work that we know the children will produce!

The children will work hard to think about their choice of vocabulary in their writing and how they can use adjectives to describe the characters and settings in some of our favourite stories.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVTjug9uaP4 Here is a link to a song with lots of adjectives that the children might use in their writing.

Please continue to read regularly with the children at home to support them in consolidating their phonic knowledge, this really will help them to apply this skill to their writing with greater confodence and independence.

As always, please don't hesitate to ask if there is anything at all that we can do to help you in supporting your children at home.
